Mechanical Engineering in Ottawa & Eastern Ontario
HVAC, plumbing and fire protection engineering design for commercial, residential and light industrial projects.
HVAC engineering & design
Heat loss and heat gain calculations; equipment selection; ductwork layout and sizing; heating, ventilation and air conditioning coordination. Designs address project conditions and applicable requirements.
Plumbing engineering & design
Domestic hot and cold water, sanitary and storm drainage, fixture unit calculations, pipe sizing and backflow prevention coordination.
Fire protection engineering
Sprinkler layout and hydraulic design, and kitchen hood suppression coordinated with the HVAC and plumbing systems.
Kitchen exhaust & make-up air
Restaurant ventilation, hood exhaust and make-up air system coordination for the cooking process, equipment and building.
Industrial ventilation & air quality
Local exhaust ventilation, source capture and dust collection design within the agreed scope. EEB reviews process information and facility conditions to define suitable engineering requirements. Ventilation & air quality requirements →
Permit-ready documentation
Coordinated engineering drawings and calculations, with responses to review comments and site reviews as scoped. How permit-ready drawings work →
Codes & standards: Ontario Building Code, National Plumbing Code of Canada, NFPA 96 (commercial cooking ventilation), ASHRAE standards and City of Ottawa requirements. Drawings and calculations are sealed by a licensed Ontario P.Eng.

Frequently asked questions
Do you design commercial kitchen exhaust and make-up air systems?
Yes. EEB designs hood exhaust and make-up air systems for restaurants, including solid-fuel and charcoal-grill applications, to NFPA 96 and the Ontario Building Code.
Can you prepare mechanical drawings for a City of Ottawa building permit?
Yes. Drawing sets are formatted for municipal submission, and EEB issues revisions in response to plan reviewer comments until the permit is issued.
Do you design fire sprinkler and suppression systems?
Yes. EEB provides sprinkler layout and hydraulic design and coordinates kitchen hood suppression with the HVAC and plumbing design.
What types of buildings do you work on?
Commercial and retail units, restaurants, multi-unit residential buildings, institutional conversions such as daycares, and light industrial facilities.
What do you need from me to quote mechanical design?
The project address, floor plans or existing drawings, the intended use, and any equipment information you already have—kitchen hood and appliance list, rooftop unit data or fixture counts. EEB then issues a lump-sum proposal for the defined scope.
